On April 30, 2019, Riley Howell was in class at UNC Charlotte. Seven minutes in, shots rang out and in a split-second decision, Riley chose to fight. He would not live to know that his actions saved others. The ROTC Medal of Heroism, a Purple Heart, and a Bronze Star were posthumously awarded to his family. Howell is survived by his parents, Thomas and Natalie; his two sisters, Iris and Juliet; a brother, Miles Edward “Teddy”; numerous family and friends; and his girlfriend and soulmate, Lauren Westmoreland and her family.——————————————————————
